GCal guide

Set up the browser extension

Bring GCal’s calendar appearance and selected enhancements into your browser.

Requires Premium. Feature availability

Enable it in Safari

  1. Open GCal and go to Settings → Browser Extension.
  2. Choose Open Safari Extensions. In Safari’s extension settings, enable the GCal extension.
  3. Allow the extension to work on Google Calendar when Safari asks, then open or reload your Google Calendar tab.

Keep GCal installed. Safari checks access through the containing app.

Install it in a Chromium browser

  1. In Settings → Browser Extension, choose the installed browser you want to use. Supported choices include Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, and Opera.
  2. Choose Open Browser and open the Extensions page shown in GCal’s instructions.
  3. Turn on Developer Mode, then drag the extension icon from GCal’s settings into that browser’s Extensions page.
  4. Open Google Calendar and use the extension’s options to choose enhancements, an accent color, and a background.

The extension’s options are stored by the browser. They do not automatically mirror every setting in the Mac app.

If the extension is missing or inactive

  • Open GCal’s Browser Extension settings and choose Refresh if a newly installed browser is not listed.
  • Check that the extension is enabled and allowed on Google Calendar.
  • If GCal cannot load the extension files, reinstall the current app from the Mac App Store and try again.
  • After updating GCal, use its installation instructions again if your Chromium browser still has the older extension.
