Privacy Policy for BestCal
Thank you for choosing our services, developed by Thomas Leyne ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy applies to soriian.com ("the Website") and BestCal ("the App") (collectively, "the Service"), underscoring our dedication to your privacy. The Service does not collect your Google Calendar or Google Tasks data on Soriian servers.
However, third-party services integrated with the Service, such as Google APIs, may collect data under their own privacy guidelines.

Information Collection and Use
The Service does not collect, store, or share users' Google Calendar or Google Tasks data on Soriian servers. BestCal uses Google APIs to provide its calendar and task features and processes the data it needs locally on your Mac.
Google may collect information under its own privacy practices. Users are encouraged to review the Google Privacy Policy to understand how Google collects and uses information.
Data Protection Mechanisms
The Service is designed so that its core Google Calendar and Google Tasks workflows run locally on your device. This approach provides a high level of security and privacy for information accessed through Google APIs.
Data Security: Google sign-in and Google API requests are transmitted using encrypted connections. Authorization credentials are stored in macOS Keychain, while agenda data is cached locally so BestCal, its widgets, and notifications can operate reliably. We advise keeping your Mac and its software updated.
User Control: You control the data processed by BestCal. You can manage or restrict access from the App, remove a connected account, or revoke access through your Google account permissions.
Use of Google User Data
BestCal requests access to Google user data only after you explicitly grant permission through Google's authorization flow. We use Google user data only to provide user-facing features available through the Service.
Google user data received by the Service is used only to:
- identify and manage the Google account you connected;
- load calendar lists and calendar events you authorized;
- load Google Tasks lists and tasks you authorized;
- display agenda, task, and meeting details in the menu bar and App views;
- show agenda information in widgets;
- generate optional reminders for upcoming events;
- apply the calendar visibility you choose through macOS Focus filters; and
- open the conference or related meeting link you choose.
Read-only Events and Tasks: BestCal does not create, edit, or delete Google Calendar events or Google Tasks. Choosing which calendars appear may update their selected state in your Google Calendar List, but does not modify event content.
Consent and Revocation: Users are prompted to grant consent through Google's authorization flow, with information about the data being accessed. Consent can be withdrawn at any time through Google account permissions or by removing the connected account from BestCal.
No Unauthorized Sharing: Data accessed from Google is not shared with third parties or transferred out of your device.
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Third-Party Services
The only third-party service provider the Service uses is Google, for Google account authorization and Google Calendar and Google Tasks integration. These services may collect information used to identify you. Google's use of information collected through its services follows its own Google Privacy Policy.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect personal data on Soriian servers, the Service does not hold data that would enable us to directly address individual data subject rights under the GDPR or other privacy laws. For inquiries about data collected by Google services, refer to the Google Privacy Policy and Google's support resources. You can remove locally stored account data by removing the connected account from BestCal.
Website Information Collection Practices
The Website is informational. You cannot sign in, connect a Google account, or run BestCal workflows through the Website.
Website Analytics: The Website uses a limited self-hosted analytics script to send a basic ping for activity such as page views, referrers, and download clicks. The analytics endpoint is operated on our own server, IP addresses are anonymised, and website analytics are separate from Google APIs and are not used to access, collect, or share Google user data.
Website Visitors: We do not collect personal information from Website visitors unless it is voluntarily provided, for example by contacting us by email. Information provided this way is used only for the stated purpose, such as responding to your query.
Third-Party Links: The Website may contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices and encourage you to review their privacy statements.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page.
