# Use Google Calendar enhancements

Personalize calendar views, check availability, and duplicate events with optional enhancements.

These guides cover GCal 4.0.0 for Mac.

Source: [Use Google Calendar enhancements](https://soriian.com/help/calendar-enhancements/)

Established enhancements are included with Classic or Premium. Highlight Today, Current Time Label, Hover Time Guide, Show Tags in Event Titles, and Show Availability from Other Accounts require Premium. [Feature availability](https://soriian.com/help/premium-features/).

## Turn on an enhancement

1. Open **Settings → Extensions**.
2. Enable one option at a time, then look at the main calendar window to see its effect.
3. Switch it off again whenever you prefer the original view.

Most options change how Google Calendar looks or behaves. Hiding past events and visually merging events do not delete them. Quick Duplicate helps you create a copy of an event.

## Find the right option

**Calendar**

- **Highlight Weekends:** shade weekend columns so they are easier to distinguish from weekdays.
- **Highlight Today:** highlight today in supported week and month views. It follows the date on your Mac.
- **Disable Month Scroll:** prevent scrolling from accidentally switching months.
- **Visually merge same events:** combine matching entries visually without deleting the underlying events.
- **Hide Past Events:** hide past events from the calendar display without deleting them.
- **Advanced Trackpad Swipe:** use trackpad swipes to move to the previous or next calendar period.
- **Hide Morning Hours:** hide early hours in time-grid views to make more room for the rest of your day.
- **Current Time Label:** show the exact current time on the current-time indicator in supported time-grid views. If more than one time zone is visible, GCal shows the current time for each one.
- **Hover Time Guide:** hold **Option** and move the pointer over the calendar to see the exact time in each visible time zone.
- **Show Tags in Event Titles:** start an event title with a tag followed by a colon, such as **Work: Team meeting**. GCal displays the prefix as a visual tag without changing the saved title.
- **Show Availability from Other Accounts:** hold **Shift + Option** in Day or Week view to see busy times from other connected accounts. This shows availability without event details and is available in the GCal app, not the browser extension.

**Views**

- **Dim Toolbar when window is inactive:** make the calendar toolbar less prominent when the window is not active.
- **Schedule view with mobile styling:** apply mobile-style formatting to Schedule view.
- **Month view with mobile styling:** apply mobile-style formatting to Month view.
- **Compact window layout:** adapt the calendar interface to a smaller window.

**Quick Duplicate**

- **Quick Duplicate:** add a **Duplicate Event** button to the event preview. You can also press **Command-D** with the preview open, or **Option-click** an event, to start duplicating it.

## If something seems to have disappeared

Turn off the relevant display option and check the same date again. Different enhancements apply to different calendar views, so also try the view the option is designed for. If events are missing from the menu bar rather than the main window, use [the calendar troubleshooting guide](https://soriian.com/help/missing-calendars/).
